You will need to perform an external search to answer the following - What is the Palestinian Authority? Within the article, why did this "carnival atmosphere" include burning the American flag on numerous occasions? Why does America have the opinion we do concerning Palestinian statehood (you very well may need to perform additional external research for this question)?
The Palestinian Authority assumed the responsibilities of the Israeli military administration in populated Palestinian centers after the Gaza-Jericho Agreement. The administrative responsibilities of the Palestinian Authority are limited to civil matters and internal security. Burning of the American flag adds to a “carnival atmosphere” because the United States is firmly against Palestine becoming a state, and the Palestinians are protesting our opinion. The United States is against Palestine receiving statehood and membership within the United Nations because we believe the only way Israel and the Palestinians will achieve a two-state solution is through direct negotiations, and we have threatened to stop paying millions of dollars in aid to them if they receive the statehood. We want direct negotiations between Israel and Palestine, and believe that is the best course of action.
ReplyDeleteThe Palestinian authority is the administrative organization that governs the West Bank and Gaza Strip, it is designated to have control over security related and civilian issues in Palestinian urban areas, only civilian issues in rural areas. The youth burned an American flag both at a speech and at a musical performance this mainly was because Washington pledged to block approval by the security council of the Palestinian application of UN membership. Obama has declared opposition to Palestinian statehood mainly because he believed that Palestinians must make peace with Israel before gaining statehood themselves. he stated, " “We will only succeed in that effort if we can encourage the parties to sit down together, to listen to each other and to understand each other’s hopes and fears. That is the project to which America is committed, and that is what the United Nations should be focused on in the weeks and months to come.” He feels that because of their grievances against each other the UN must act as an arbiter.
ReplyDeleteThe Palestinian Authority is the current interim government of the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank. It was established in the Gaza-Jerico Agreement after the Oslo Accords to govern this area from Israel, even though Israel are still legally in charge of this area for now. The Palestinian Authority’s responsibilites are limited to civil matters and internal security only. The do not have authority to do anything else. The “carnival atmosphere” included burning of American flags because the United States has pledged to block approval by the Security Council on Palestine’s application for statehood. The Palestinians are burning the American flags to show their displeasure with us about our opposition to their statehood. The United States has this perspective because we believe the best course of action is for direct negoiations between Israel and Palestine. The U.N. should only act as a neutral mediator between Israel and Palestine, and they should settle their differences with each other directly.
ReplyDeleteThe Palestinian authority is what currently governs the West Bank and Gaza Strip. It is also supposed to have control over security related issues as well as civilian issues. The Palestinians were burning the American flag because of our opposition to their statehood. The U.S. believes that negotiations through Israel are the only way that Palestine will achieve statehood. President Obama has said that Palestine needs to become peaceful with Israel if they have any hopes of becoming recognized as a state.
ReplyDeleteThe Palistinian Authority is a government based in Israel that acts almost as a local government does here in the United States. They have some limited power, and control such things as some human rights and voting quotas to be met. Crime is a major problem for the government, particulary in the Gaza Strip where rockets are constantly being fired at Israel. The Palistinian Government exists because the Israel government relunctently allows it, so it really has no power outside of the basic neccessities that the Palistinians need. The youth are seen burning the American flag because America pledged to block Palestines application for UN membership. We believe that Palestine is going behind the back of Israel in order to achieve statehood when they should be directly negotiating with Israel to achieve their statehood properly.
ReplyDeleteThe Palestinian Authority (PA) is an interim government that was established to govern parts of the west bank and the Gaza strip. The PA has control over security related issues and civilian issues in urban areas and just control over civilian issues in rural areas. The Palestinians would burn the American flag on many occasions because the U.S. is opposed to Palestinian statehood and the people don’t want the U.S. to veto their acceptance into the United Nations. The reason why the U.S. opposes Palestine’s attempt to achieve statehood is that they believe that Palestine and Israel, a U.S. ally, need to have direct negotiations in order for Palestine to achieve statehood. The U.S. feels that Palestine is going about achieving statehood in the wrong way by not negotiating with Israel and the U.S. feels that the most peaceful resolution would come through direct negotiations.

ReplyDeleteThe Palestinian Authority is an interim administrative body established in 1994 in accordance with the Gaza-Jericho Agreement to govern parts of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The PA’s authority is limited to civil matters and internal security. They are not in charge of external security or foreign affair. The carnival atmosphere included burning the American flag becuase Palestinians are angry that America plans to reject Palestines bid for U.N. statehood, and they wanted to express their anger. The United States plans to veto Palestinian statehood becasue we believe that any attempt at Palestinian statehood should not be decided by the U.N. Security Council but by direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
ReplyDeleteThe Palestinian Authority is an administrative organization that was established in 1994 to govern parts of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Authority was designated to have control over both security-related and civilian issues in Palestinian urban areas, and civilian control over Palestinian rural areas. The "Carnival Atmoshpere" includes burning the American flag on numerous occasions becasue the Palestinians are upset by the American opposed vote foe the Palestinians to have a seat in the United Nations. The U.S. wants to veto the Palestinians attempt at statehood beacause the U.S. believe that Palestinian statehood should become a result of direct negotiations with Israel.
ReplyDeleteThe United States is strongly for the notion of Palestine not becoming its own state. The reason for this is because it is thought out that Palestine will choke out and diminish Israel if they become a nation. The United States believe that Palestine need to have direct negotiations with Israel, they say this will solve a lot of the problems. Palestine is in a disagreement with the US and that is why they are burning our flag. The Palestinian Authority is the current interim government of the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank. It was established in the Gaza-Jerico Agreement but the Palestinian government is still very limited to what they can and can not do.

ReplyDeleteThe Palestinian Authority (PA) is the current governmental organization that controls the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Formed in 1994, the PA was originally purposed as a five-year interim body established while negotiations between the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Israeli government took place. The PA was not given an official title, though, and after sixteen years, Palestinians are trying to gain legitimate status as a state, not just a nation. The atmosphere in Palestine was described by the Washington Post as a "carnival," because Palestinians were burning American flags in protest to the American promise to veto the Palestinian application for statehood. America does not support the Palestinian plight for statehood because of their strained relations with the state of Israel. Obama conveyed his point of view in an address at the General Assembly in September; he believes that Israel and Palestine should resolve their disputes privately before taking them to the world stage. Obama also urged other international powers to also push for resolution talks between the two.
ReplyDeleteThe Palestinian Authority controls the West Bank and and the Gaza Strip. U.S. flags were burned on many occasions because the U.S. opposed their statehood into the United Nations. The U.S. does not believe Palestine should have statehood because of the relationship they have with Israel. Israel is an ally to the U.S. and they U.S. believes Palestine is going about the wrong way to achieve statehood. They need to work out negotiations with Israel first.
ReplyDeleteThe Palestinian Authority was an administration established to govern parts of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. There are US flags being burned because the US is against Palestinian statehood. We oppose Palestinian statehood because of Israel-Palestine relations. The US believes they should talk out their differences before given statehood.
